Job description

Role Specification – Accounts and Audit Senior

Location: Milton Keynes/St Albans and Rickmansworth

Department: Audit

Reporting to: Audit Managers

Staff responsible for: Junior trainees on audit

Salary: Dependent on whether qualified or not and experience gained.

Benefits: 23 days holiday, pension, DIS

Hours: 0900-1730. Flexitime in operation.

  1. Main function of job (Note: in addition to these functions employees are required to carry out such other duties as may reasonably be required.

Audit senior reporting to audit managers and supervising more junior members of the audit team.

  1. Main duties (in order of priority)

This is a split role working on 60% accounts and 40% audits

Planning and carrying out audits with turnover up to £40 million, including specialist audits e.g. FSA, pensions, solicitors, charities and schools. Jobs to be completed with minimal supervision, to deadlines and within budget.

Supervision of junior staff

Preparation of draft business tax computations

Preparation of draft statutory accounts under FRS102 and old UK GAAP from client’s numbers pre audit

Larger accounts preparation jobs for audit exempt limited companies, partnerships, LLPs

Where applicable drafting recommendations to management post audit

  1. Equipment used

Use of computer packages including Proaudit, CCH Accounts Production (AP), Sage, Alphatax and excel would be desirable.

  1. Qualifications/education required

ACA or ACCA qualified (degree not essential)

  1. Experience required

Preferably 1-2 years post-qualification experience in a practice of similar size to Mercer and Hole or smaller.

  1. Particular aptitudes/ skills required

As well as being able to prepare completed audit files for a large variety of clients to a high standard, the applicant should be a good communicator and be able to deal confidently and effectively with both clients and staff alike. They should be able to cope with both pure audits and with jobs where the records are not straightforward, and should be able to work within deadlines and budgets.
