Position Overview
Our client, a leading Manhattan-based CPA firm is seeking a skilled Tax Senior to join their dynamic tax department. This role offers the opportunity to work with a sophisticated client base including high-net-worth individuals, real estate entities, and closely-held businesses in the heart of New York City's financial district.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Preparation & Compliance
- Prepare and review complex federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, S-corporations, and trusts
- Handle multi-state tax filings and New York City-specific tax requirements
- Research complex tax issues using RIA, CCH, and BNA tax research tools
- Ensure compliance with federal, New York State, and NYC tax regulations
- Manage tax provision calculations and quarterly estimated tax payments
Client Service & Relationship Management
- Serve as primary contact for assigned clients, maintaining strong professional relationships
- Provide proactive tax planning strategies and advice to minimize tax liabilities
- Communicate complex tax concepts clearly to clients and respond to inquiries promptly
- Coordinate with clients' financial advisors, attorneys, and other professionals
- Attend client meetings and participate in business development activities
Team Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise and mentor junior tax staff and interns
- Review work performed by staff accountants for accuracy and completeness
- Provide training on tax software and technical tax issues
- Assist with staff scheduling and workflow management during busy season
Special Projects & Planning
- Assist with tax planning engagements for high-net-worth individuals
- Support real estate tax certiorari proceedings and property tax appeals
- Prepare tax projections and scenario analyses
- Assist with IRS and state tax examinations and correspondence
- Support business succession planning and estate tax planning initiatives
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 3-5 years of public accounting experience with focus on taxation
- CPA license required (or CPA candidate with plans to obtain license within 12 months)
- Strong knowledge of federal and state tax laws, particularly New York State and NYC regulations
- Proficiency in tax software (GoSystem Tax RS, ProSeries, or similar)
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with tax research databases
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet tight deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with high-net-worth individual taxation
- Knowledge of real estate taxation and partnership allocations
- Experience with multi-state tax filings
- Familiarity with New York City tax regulations and procedures
- Master's degree in Taxation or related field
