Position Overview


Our client, a prestigious Manhattan-based CPA firm is seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead their tax department and drive exceptional client service. This senior-level position offers the opportunity to manage complex tax engagements for high-net-worth individuals, real estate portfolios, and sophisticated business entities while developing and mentoring a talented team of tax professionals.



Key Responsibilities



Client Portfolio Management

  • Manage a diverse portfolio of high-value clients including ultra-high-net-worth individuals, real estate investment entities, private equity funds, and closely-held businesses
  • Oversee complex federal, state, and multi-state tax compliance for corporations, partnerships, S-corporations, trusts, and estates
  • Lead tax planning strategies for sophisticated clients including estate planning, business succession, and transaction structuring
  • Serve as primary relationship manager for key clients, ensuring exceptional service delivery and retention
  • Coordinate with clients' investment advisors, estate attorneys, and wealth managers on integrated planning strategies


Team Leadership & Development

  • Supervise and mentor a team of tax seniors, staff accountants, and seasonal personnel
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide career development guidance
  • Lead training programs on technical tax issues and firm procedures
  • Manage workflow distribution and ensure efficient completion of engagements
  • Recruit, interview, and onboard new tax staff members
  • Foster a collaborative and professional work environment


Technical Excellence & Quality Control

  • Review complex tax returns and planning memoranda for accuracy and compliance
  • Research and resolve sophisticated tax issues using professional databases
  • Ensure compliance with federal, New York State, and NYC tax regulations
  • Maintain current knowledge of tax law changes and communicate updates to team
  • Develop and implement quality control procedures and best practices
  • Oversee tax provision calculations and quarterly compliance requirements


Business Development & Client Relations

  • Participate in client meetings and business development activities
  • Identify opportunities for additional services and practice growth
  • Represent the firm at professional events and industry conferences
  • Maintain relationships with referral sources including attorneys and financial advisors
  • Prepare proposals for new client opportunities
  • Contribute to thought leadership through articles and speaking engagements


Specialized Services

  • Oversee real estate tax matters including certiorari proceedings and 1031 exchanges
  • Manage IRS and state tax examinations and appeals processes
  • Lead complex transaction tax planning and due diligence projects
  • Coordinate international tax compliance for clients with global investments
  • Oversee trust and estate tax planning and administration
  • Manage SALT (State and Local Tax) planning strategies for high-income clients


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA license required
  • 6-10 years of progressive public accounting experience with significant tax focus
  • Proven experience managing complex tax engagements and client relationships
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state tax laws, particularly New York regulations
  • Experience with high-net-worth individual and entity taxation
  • Leadership experience with demonstrated ability to manage and develop staff
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Proficiency in tax software (GoSystem Tax RS, ProSeries, or equivalent)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Taxation, MST, or LLM in Taxation
  • Experience with international tax planning and compliance
  • Knowledge of real estate taxation and partnership allocations
  • Experience with private equity and hedge fund taxation
  • Familiarity with estate and gift tax planning
  • Experience with tax controversy and examination defense
  • Strong business development and client relationship skills
