Our client, a well-established CPA firm in Clark, New Jersey is seeking a motivated Staff Tax Accountant to join their growing tax department. Key Responsibilities
Tax Preparation & Compliance
- Prepare federal and state income tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, and S-corporations
- Handle New Jersey state tax returns and compliance requirements
- Prepare quarterly estimated tax payments and extensions
- Process tax organizers and gather supporting documentation from clients
- Input client data accurately into tax preparation software
- Perform tax calculations and reconciliations
Client Service & Support
- Communicate with clients via phone and email regarding tax questions and document requests
- Schedule appointments and coordinate client meetings
- Assist with client inquiries during tax season and throughout the year
- Maintain organized client files and documentation
- Support senior staff with client research and special projects
Administrative & Technical Tasks
- Maintain current knowledge of federal and state tax law changes
- Assist with tax return quality review and filing processes
- Help prepare tax projections and planning scenarios
- Support payroll tax return preparation and quarterly filings
- Assist with sales tax returns and compliance matters
- File tax returns electronically and manage client deliverables
Professional Development
- Participate in continuing education programs and tax update seminars
- Work toward CPA certification and professional licensing goals
- Collaborate with team members to develop technical skills
- Assist with special projects and process improvement initiatives
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 1-3 years of tax preparation experience preferred (entry-level candidates considered)
- Basic knowledge of federal and state tax laws and regulations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general computer skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure during busy season
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with tax preparation software (Drake, Lacerte, ProSeries, or similar)
- Knowledge of New Jersey state tax regulations
- CPA candidate or plans to pursue CPA certification
- Previous experience in public accounting or tax services
- Familiarity with QuickBooks and other accounting software
- Customer service experience

- Tax preparation software proficiency
- Advanced Excel skills including formulas and pivot tables
