Position Overview
We are seeking an accomplished Tax Manager with a proven track record of success in public accounting to lead our tax practice and drive continued growth. This senior-level position is designed for a licensed CPA who demonstrates exceptional technical expertise, strong leadership capabilities, and a passion for developing both client relationships and team members.
The Tax Manager will oversee all aspects of tax service delivery, manage a portfolio of complex client relationships, and play a key role in business development initiatives. This position offers significant autonomy, leadership responsibility, and a clear pathway to partnership within our growing firm.
The successful candidate will serve as a subject matter expert on complex tax issues while building and mentoring a high-performing team of tax professionals. Essential Responsibilities
Tax Practice Leadership & Management
Practice Oversight:
- Lead and manage all aspects of the firm's tax practice, ensuring quality, timeliness, and profitability
- Develop and implement tax practice strategies to drive growth and enhance service delivery
- Establish and maintain quality control procedures for all tax engagements
- Monitor practice performance metrics including realization rates, client satisfaction, and team productivity
- Coordinate with partners and other department managers to ensure integrated service delivery
- Stay abreast of current tax legislation, regulations, and court decisions affecting clients
Team Leadership & Development:
- Recruit, hire, and onboard qualified tax professionals at all experience levels
- Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of Senior Accountants, Tax Specialists, and support staff
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback for team development
- Create and deliver internal training programs on technical tax topics and firm procedures
- Establish career development plans for team members and support their professional growth
- Foster a collaborative team environment that promotes knowledge sharing and best practices
Technical Tax Expertise & Advisory Services
Complex Tax Compliance:
- Oversee preparation and review of sophisticated individual, corporate, partnership, and fiduciary tax returns
- Handle multi-state tax issues including nexus analysis, apportionment, and compliance requirements
- Prepare and review tax provisions for financial statement purposes under ASC 740
- Coordinate tax compliance for consolidated corporate groups and complex ownership structures
- Manage tax compliance for private equity funds, real estate partnerships, and investment entities
Tax Planning & Advisory:
- Develop and implement comprehensive tax minimization strategies for individuals and businesses
- Provide guidance on business succession planning, exit strategies, and wealth transfer techniques
- Advise on tax-efficient structuring of business transactions and investment activities
- Conduct tax research on complex issues and prepare technical memoranda documenting positions
- Assist with tax controversy matters including audit defense and appeals processes
- Coordinate with tax attorneys on sophisticated planning strategies and technical issues
Required Qualifications
Education & Professional Credentials
- CPA License: Active CPA license in New Jersey (or ability to obtain reciprocity within 90 days)
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Taxation, or related field required; Master's degree in Taxation preferred
- Continuing Education: Commitment to maintaining CPE requirements with emphasis on tax-focused education
- Professional Memberships: Active participation in AICPA, NJCPA, and relevant tax-focused organizations
Professional Experience & Expertise
- Public Accounting Experience: Minimum 7-10 years of progressive experience in public accounting with significant tax focus
- Management Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of supervisory experience managing professional staff
- Client Management: Proven track record of managing complex client relationships and delivering exceptional service
- Technical Depth: Extensive experience with sophisticated tax planning and compliance for individuals and businesses
- Multi-State Experience: Experience with multi-state tax issues and compliance requirements preferred
- Industry Specialization: Experience serving specific industries (real estate, healthcare, manufacturing, professional services) preferred
Technical Skills & Software Proficiency
- Tax Software: Expert proficiency in professional tax software (CCH Axcess, Lacerte, ProSeries, or similar enterprise platforms)
- Research Tools: Advanced skills in tax research using RIA, CCH, BNA, or similar professional research platforms
- Microsoft Office: Advanced proficiency in Excel for complex financial modeling and analysis
- Financial Software: Experience with QuickBooks, Sage, and other accounting software platforms
- Document Management: Familiarity with professional document management and workflow systems

Working Conditions & Expectations
Schedule & Work Environment
- Full-time Position: Standard business hours with significant additional hours during peak tax seasons
- Busy Season: Extended hours expected from January through April 15th and during September through October 15th
- Client Meetings: Regular travel to client locations throughout South Jersey and Philadelphia region
