Position Overview


Our client is seeking an experienced Tax & Accounting Senior to join their growing CPA firm in Sacramento. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in government agency compliance, nonprofit tax regulations, and individual taxation. This role offers the opportunity to work with diverse clients while developing expertise across multiple tax specializations in a collaborative professional environment.



Key Responsibilities



Tax Preparation & Compliance

  • Prepare and review complex individual, nonprofit, and government entity tax returns
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations
  • Research tax issues and provide technical guidance on complex matters
  • Review junior staff work and provide mentoring and training


Government & Nonprofit Specialization

  • Prepare Form 990 series returns for nonprofit organizations
  • Handle government entity compliance including audits and special reporting requirements
  • Navigate tax-exempt status requirements and unrelated business income tax (UBIT)
  • Assist with Single Audit compliance and federal grant reporting


Client Service & Management

  • Serve as primary contact for assigned client portfolio
  • Provide proactive tax planning and advisory services
  • Communicate complex tax concepts clearly to clients
  • Identify opportunities for tax savings and process improvements


Practice Development

  • Participate in business development activities and client retention efforts
  • Stay current with tax law changes and continuing education requirements
  • Contribute to firm knowledge base and best practices
  • Support marketing initiatives and professional networking


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 4-7 years of progressive tax and accounting experience
  • Previous experience with government agencies and nonprofit organizations
  • Strong knowledge of individual taxation (Forms 1040, 1041, 1065, 1120S)
  • Proficiency in professional tax software (Drake, ProSystems fx, or similar)
  • Advanced Excel skills and general computer proficiency


Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA license (California preferred) or CPA candidate
  • Experience with Form 990 preparation and nonprofit compliance
  • Knowledge of government auditing standards and federal compliance
  • Experience with estate and trust taxation
  • Familiarity with California state tax requirements
  • Previous public accounting firm experience
