Position Overview
Our client is seeking a licensed CPA with strong audit experience to join their audit practice as an Audit Senior in Sacramento. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and commercial audits, including Single Audit and federal compliance requirements. Key Responsibilities
Audit Planning & Execution
- Lead audit engagements from planning through completion for government, nonprofit, and commercial clients
- Develop comprehensive audit strategies, risk assessments, and testing procedures
- Supervise and review work performed by audit staff and associates
- Ensure compliance with GAAS, GAGAS (Yellow Book), and other applicable auditing standards
Government & Nonprofit Audit Specialization
- Conduct Single Audits in accordance with Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200)
- Perform compliance testing for federal and state grant programs
- Execute financial statement audits for nonprofit organizations and government entities
- Prepare detailed audit findings, recommendations, and management letters
Client Management & Communication
- Serve as primary client contact during audit engagements
- Present audit results and recommendations to management and governance bodies
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through exceptional service delivery
- Address client questions and provide guidance on accounting and compliance matters
Team Leadership & Development
- Mentor and train junior audit staff in technical and professional skills
- Review workpapers and provide constructive feedback to team members
- Coordinate audit team activities and manage engagement timelines
- Contribute to staff performance evaluations and professional development
Practice Enhancement
- Stay current with auditing standards, regulations, and industry best practices
- Participate in proposal preparation and business development activities
- Assist in developing audit methodologies and quality control procedures
- Support firm marketing initiatives and professional networking events
Required Qualifications
- Active CPA license (California strongly preferred)
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
- 4-7 years of progressive audit experience in public accounting
- Strong experience with government and nonprofit audits
- Knowledge of Single Audit requirements and federal compliance testing
- Proficiency with audit software (CaseWare, TeamMate, or similar platforms)
- Advanced knowledge of GAAP, GASB, and nonprofit accounting standards
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with GAGAS (Government Auditing Standards/Yellow Book) audits
- Knowledge of federal grant programs and compliance requirements
- Previous experience as in-charge auditor on complex engagements
- Familiarity with California state and local government accounting
- Experience with employee benefit plan audits
- Master's degree in Accounting or related field
