Position Overview


Our client is seeking a motivated Staff Auditor to join their audit team in Sacramento. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career professional to develop expertise in auditing government entities, nonprofit organizations, and commercial clients. You will work under the supervision of experienced audit seniors and managers while building foundational skills in public accounting and audit methodology.



Key Responsibilities



Audit Execution & Documentation

  • Perform audit procedures including substantive testing, compliance testing, and analytical reviews
  • Prepare detailed workpapers and audit documentation in accordance with firm standards
  • Execute test plans for cash, receivables, payables, and other financial statement areas
  • Document audit findings and assist in resolution of identified issues


Government & Nonprofit Audit Support

  • Assist with Single Audit procedures and federal compliance testing
  • Support nonprofit financial statement audits and Form 990 preparation
  • Perform compliance testing for federal and state grant programs
  • Learn government auditing standards (GAGAS) and nonprofit accounting principles


Data Analysis & Testing

  • Utilize audit software to perform data analysis and sampling procedures
  • Prepare confirmations and perform cash counts and inventory observations
  • Execute journal entry testing and account reconciliations
  • Support analytical review procedures and trend analysis


Professional Development

  • Participate in continuing education and professional training programs
  • Work toward CPA licensure through exam preparation and experience requirements
  • Develop technical skills in auditing standards, accounting principles, and client service
  • Build industry knowledge in government, nonprofit, and commercial sectors


Team Collaboration

  • Collaborate effectively with audit team members on engagements
  • Communicate audit progress and issues to senior staff and managers
  • Assist with administrative tasks and engagement management activities
  • Support proposal preparation and business development initiatives


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 0-3 years of audit or public accounting experience
  • Strong academic record with accounting coursework emphasis
  • Basic understanding of GAAP and auditing principles
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general computer applications
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills


Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA candidate or intention to pursue CPA licensure
  • Internship experience with public accounting firm
  • Coursework or interest in governmental or nonprofit accounting
  • Experience with audit software (CaseWare, TeamMate, etc.)
  • Knowledge of federal compliance requirements or grant auditing
  • 150 credit hours completed toward CPA requirements
