Position Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced NFP Audit Senior Manager to join their thriving Not-for-Profit practice in the City of London. This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified accountant with a passion for the charity and NFP sector to take ownership of a diverse client portfolio while leading and developing high-performing audit teams. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in delivering exceptional audit services to charities, educational institutions, and other not-for-profit organizations across London and the wider UK.
Key Responsibilities
Client Portfolio Management
- Manage and oversee a comprehensive portfolio of charity and not-for-profit sector clients, ensuring consistent service delivery and client satisfaction
- Act as the primary point of contact for assigned clients, building and maintaining strong long-term relationships
- Proactively identify opportunities for service enhancement and business development within the NFP sector
- Ensure all client engagements are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest professional standards
Audit Leadership and Supervision
- Plan, coordinate, and execute statutory audits for charities, educational institutions, and other NFP organizations in compliance with relevant regulations and standards
- Liaise directly with Directors, Partners, and senior client personnel regarding upcoming assignments, scope, and deliverables
- Lead detailed briefing sessions with audit teams, clearly communicating objectives, timelines, and key risk areas
- Supervise and review the work of audit teams, providing constructive feedback and ensuring quality standards are maintained
- Review and approve statutory accounts and other financial statements, coordinating their preparation and timely issue to clients
Technical Excellence and Guidance
- Provide expert technical guidance to staff members on complex accounting and auditing matters specific to the NFP sector
- Resolve technical queries raised by clients, demonstrating deep knowledge of charity accounting standards (SORP), regulatory requirements, and best practices
- Stay current with developments in charity law, accounting standards, and regulatory changes affecting the NFP sector
- Contribute to the firm's technical knowledge base and training programs related to NFP accounting and auditing
Team Development and Leadership
- Mentor and coach junior team members, supporting their professional development and career progression
- Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing feedback to help team members achieve their potential
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment that encourages learning and knowledge sharing
- Contribute to recruitment activities and help build the NFP practice team
Business Development and Client Relations
- Support business development initiatives within the NFP sector, including attending networking events and industry conferences
- Prepare and deliver client presentations on technical matters and service offerings
- Assist in tender responses and proposals for new NFP audit engagements
- Maintain awareness of sector trends and challenges to provide valuable insights to clients
Essential Requirements
Professional Qualifications and Experience
- ACA, ACCA, or equivalent professional accounting qualification
- Minimum 5-7 years of audit experience with significant exposure to charity and NFP sector clients
- Proven track record of successfully managing a portfolio of clients and delivering high-quality audit services
- Experience working with charities, educational institutions, housing associations, or other not-for-profit organizations
- Strong knowledge of charity accounting standards (SORP) and relevant regulatory frameworks
Technical Skills and Knowledge
- Deep understanding of UK GAAP, auditing standards (ISAs), and charity-specific accounting requirements
- Proficiency in audit software and accounting systems commonly used in the NFP sector
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical matters clearly

Location and Working Arrangements
This position is based in our City of London office with hybrid working options available. Some travel to client sites across London and the UK may be required as part of the role.
