Tax Manager- Healthcare Clients

About This Opportunity

I'm working with an established CPA firm in Somerville that's built a strong reputation in the healthcare sector, and they're looking for a Tax Manager to join their growing practice. This isn't your typical tax role - you'll be working exclusively with healthcare clients, which means variety, complexity, and the chance to become a real specialist in this space.

The Role in Detail

As Tax Manager, you'll be the go-to person for healthcare tax matters. My client works with a diverse range of healthcare providers - from small private practices and dental groups to multi-location medical facilities and hospitals. You'll be managing the full tax lifecycle for these clients, not just during busy season, but year-round strategic planning and advisory work.

Your day-to-day will include preparing and reviewing corporate, partnership, and individual tax returns for physicians, medical groups, and healthcare entities. You'll dive into complex tax issues specific to healthcare - things like medical practice structuring, physician compensation arrangements, and healthcare-specific deductions and credits. There's also plenty of tax planning work, helping clients navigate major decisions like practice acquisitions, mergers, or succession planning.

Beyond the technical work, you'll be leading client meetings, presenting tax strategies, and building strong relationships with healthcare professionals who rely on your expertise. You'll also be managing and mentoring a team of senior accountants and staff, reviewing their work, and helping them develop their skills.

What They're Looking For

My client needs someone with at least 5 years of solid tax experience - public accounting background is ideal, but they're open to candidates from corporate tax roles if you've got the right skills. Healthcare experience is a major plus, but if you've got strong tax fundamentals and are excited to specialize, they're willing to train the right person.

You should be comfortable managing multiple clients and deadlines, because healthcare practices operate year-round and don't always follow traditional tax calendars. Strong technical skills are essential - you need to know your way around tax software, Excel, and tax research tools.

Communication skills matter here. You'll be explaining complex tax concepts to doctors and healthcare administrators who don't live and breathe tax code, so you need to translate technical jargon into plain English. Leadership ability is important too - you'll have people looking to you for guidance and mentorship.

While CPA certification isn't required, having it definitely strengthens your candidacy. If you're working toward it, that's great too.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

The healthcare niche is where it's at right now. The industry is constantly evolving with regulatory changes, new practice models, and increasing consolidation. That means interesting, challenging work that keeps you engaged. You'll become a true expert in an area where there's high demand and limited supply of qualified professionals.

My client offers a hybrid work arrangement - you'll have flexibility to work from home several days a week while still maintaining face time with clients and your team. The compensation package is competitive and includes performance bonuses, comprehensive health benefits, 401k with company match, and generous PTO.

There's real growth potential here. As the healthcare practice continues to expand, they're looking for someone who can eventually take on a partner track or senior leadership role. They invest in professional development - expect support for continuing education, conferences, and certifications.

The culture is collaborative rather than cutthroat. Yes, busy season exists, but they're realistic about work-life balance and don't expect you to burn out. The team is supportive, the partners are accessible, and there's genuine respect for everyone's contributions.

The Commute and Location

Somerville is centrally located in Somerset County with easy access to major highways (I-287, Route 22, Route 206). Whether you're coming from surrounding towns or making a slightly longer commute, the hybrid schedule means you're not driving in every single day.
