Practice Accountant

This Practice Accountant position in Watford is ideal for someone with strong bookkeeping and management accounting experience within a practice environment. With a salary of £35,000 - £42,000, you'll be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing management accounts, and supporting the business services team.
The role offers exposure to diverse clients and the opportunity to provide advisory services, including app training and support, while working with modern accounting software.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare year-end accounts and financial statements for a diverse portfolio of clients
Prepare and submit VAT Returns and CIS Returns accurately and on time
Manage bookkeeping services, processing sales and purchase ledgers efficiently
Prepare management accounts and provide financial reporting to clients
Perform bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations
Handle prepayments, accruals and journals appropriately
Maintain accurate financial records and finalise bookkeeping up to trial balance level
Liaise with clients to gather financial information and address queries
Assist with tax computations and support tax compliance work
Provide advisory services on accounting software and best practices
Support clients with payroll queries and basic PAYE matters where required
Identify opportunities to improve clients' financial processes and systems
What We're Looking For
Essential:
Proven experience working within an accountancy practice, ideally in a management accounting or business services role
Solid knowledge of bookkeeping, VAT, and the preparation of management accounts
Confidence in preparing financial reports, analysing figures, and presenting insights to clients
Strong working knowledge of cloud accounting platforms (e.g. Xero, Sage, QuickBooks) and associated apps
Competent user of MS Office, particularly Excel, with the ability to manipulate and interpret data
Excellent communication skills with the ability to build strong client relationships
Organised, detail-oriented, and able to manage a varied portfolio of clients to deadlines
Proactive approach with the ability to identify opportunities for clients and support their growth
