A well-established accounting firm in Harrogate is seeking an experienced Personal Tax Assistant Manager to join their tax department. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified accountant looking to take on greater responsibility and leadership within personal tax, working with a prestigious portfolio of high-net-worth individuals, business owners, partnerships, and trusts.
About the Role:
As Personal Tax Assistant Manager, you'll play a key role in managing client relationships, leading on complex tax matters, and supervising junior team members. This position offers significant client exposure and the opportunity to contribute to the strategic development of the tax department, with a clear pathway to management level.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a portfolio of personal tax clients, acting as main point of contact
- Prepare and review complex Self Assessment returns for individuals, partnerships, and trusts
- Handle sophisticated Capital Gains Tax computations including share disposals, business asset disposals, and property transactions
- Prepare Inheritance Tax returns and advise on estate planning matters
- Provide proactive tax planning advice on income optimization, investment structures, and succession planning
- Lead on HMRC enquiries and negotiate settlements where required
- Review and mentor junior team members, providing technical guidance and development support
- Manage workflow within the personal tax team and monitor progress against deadlines
- Review work-in-progress and raise fee invoices on a monthly basis
- Identify advisory opportunities and work with Partners on complex client matters
- Contribute to business development through excellent client service and potential referrals
- Stay current with tax legislation changes and communicate updates to the team
What We're Looking For:
- ACA/ACCA/CTA qualified with substantial personal tax experience in practice
- Strong technical expertise across all aspects of personal taxation
- Proven experience reviewing complex tax returns and managing client relationships
- Experience supervising and developing junior staff members
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex tax matters clearly to clients
- Confident liaising with HMRC and handling enquiries independently
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities during peak periods
- Commercially aware with a client-focused approach
